OUR HISTORY

The Chino Fairgrounds began in 1942 as a camp for housing laborers working on WPA projects in the Chino area. The facility was also used as a German POW camp, housing as many as 500 prisoners.

In April 1945, the camp became a sub-depot to the Pomona Ordnance Depot. By May a fire erupted, resulting from an explosion on the site. A newspaper article relates the difficulties of the firefighters as they encountered gas bombs, hand grenades, and small arms ammunition stored at the facility.

Eleven years later the property was sold to the San Bernardino Junior Fairgrounds, the beginnings of the fairgrounds you know today. Since 1956, the property has been used as a fairground.

Currently, the property is owned by the Chino Fair Association. The Chino Fair and 4H / FFA Auctions are held once a year – the second week of July, and culminate with the Chino Challenge Demolition Derby.

The Chino Fair Grounds is an ideal location for a large company picnic, carnival, rodeo, car show, or social gatherings. With banquet facilities for indoor events and outside areas, carnivals and picnics are a natural fit. The outdoor area is fenced in with lots of trees and plenty of parking.
